Abstract
Aim: To determine the awareness of the requirement of presbyopic glasses in 35-45 year old population in western Uttar Pradesh.
Methods: A questionnaire based observational study was conducted on 410 patients between the 35-45 year old age group. They were examined and a questionnaire was used to record their awareness and knowledge of presbyopia and the requirement of presbyopic glasses and the results were analyzed.
Results: The majority of the study population with presbyopia (58.8%) were females. More than 50% of the study population had difficulty in reading the small print of the cell phone and cleaning grains. 65.4% of the total study population were aware of presbyopia and 54.9% were aware of spectacle use for presbyopia.
Conclusion: A large part of the population was unaware of the correction of presbyopia due to lack of awareness or unwillingness to wear glasses. Better awareness and community education strategies are required to make population aware of presbyopia.
