Abstract
PURPOSE: To evaluate histopathology specimens of lacrimal sac obtained after DCT and to observe the patterns. METHODS: A total of 10 female patients who are clinically diagnosed as chronic dacryocystitis were included. they underwent DCT. The study was conducted for a period of 2 months. Following DCT, excised lacrimal sac was sent for histopathology. histopathological slides were examined for chronic inflammatory cell infiltration, fibrosis or dysplastic changes.
RESULTS: The average age of patients is 58 years. their age ranged between 45 and 70 years. chronic inflammation changes seen in all of the cases. they are divided into mild, moderate and severe based on the cell infiltration.
CONCLUSION: Inclusion of histopathological study post DCT helps in understanding the severity of inflammation and plan for the treatment dose and duration after the DCT surgery.
