Abstract
PURPOSE:To comparatively explore efficacy of Bicanalicur intubation in DCR over DCR using mitomycin C in preventing recurrence and increasing success rate.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Prospective study included 28 patients attending OPD with chronic dacryocystits with epiphora, mucoid or mucopurulent discharge on regurgitation from puncta.14 patients assigned as group 1underwent DCR with Bicanalicular intubation, rest 14 patients as group 2 DCR was done using intraoperative MMC(0.2mg/ml) at ostium, margin, undersurface of flap, over canalicular opening for 2 min one by one. Both group were followed for 1year.
RESULTS:The success rate was 92.8%(13/14) patients in group 1 and 85.7%(12/14) in group 2 with reference to relief from epiphora. No serious complications including cheese wiring or pyogenic granuloma formation was observed.
CONCLUSION:The result indicates that Bicanalicular intubation in DCR showed more success rate in preventing recurrence than DCR with mitomycin C.
