Abstract
To study OCT findings such as retinal nerve fiber layer thickness and macular parameters like CST, and CAT in patients of TBM in the early phase of the disease and its relation with visual function.
Material and Methods: In a prospective observational study 53 patients with TBM were included. The enrolled participants underwent a comprehensive ophthalmic examination and investigations like OCT RNFL and macula. Observation and result: RNFL thickness was significantly decreased in 52 TBM patients after one month of treatment. No significant change was observed in CST and CAT after one month of treatment in patients of TBM enrolled in the study.
Conclusion: In the early stages of the disease, the nerve fibers are swelling. This causes an increase in RNFL thickness than normal. This change is more marked in the peripapillary area as RNFL is thickest here. Since RNFL is thin at the macula, so edema is less significant, causing less change in retinal thickness at the macula.
