Abstract
Purpose: To study the safety and efficacy of phacoemulsification (Phaco) without any hydro procedures (Hydrodissection or Hydrodileation) in posterior polar cataract (PPC)
Materials & Method: Eighty-one eyes with PPC posted for phaco between January 2020 and May 2022 were selected. Phaco was done through temporal clear corneal incision without any hydro procedures. Nucleus rotation was done after initiating phaco for nucleus management. In the 17 cases in which rotation was not possible phaco was completed through a superior tunnel
Result: None of the cases developed posterior capsular rent (PCR) during phacoemulsification. In the two cases that had preexisting posterior capsular defect, there was neither enlargement of the defect nor vitreous disturbance during phaco. Though two cases developed PCR during corneal wound hydration, Intra Ocular Lens remained stable and centered
Conclusion: Phaco without any hydroprocedures is a failsafe technique for managing posterior polar cataract
