Abstract

Aim-To evaluate the surgical outcome in terms of alignment of visual axis and psychosocial effects before and after surgery in patients with concomitant horizontal strabismus. Method-30 cases were taken. Complete orthoptic examination was done and angle of deviation was measured by prism bar cover test pre and postoperatively. AS-20 Questionnaire were given pre and postoperatively. Six Months follow up taken. Result & Conclusion-Successful surgical outcome was considered as deviation less than 15PD. Mean preoperative angle of deviation was significantly reduced from 44+10.21PD to 12+2.34PD. Out of 18 patients of esotropia, 4 were with residual deviation and 14(88.89%) had successful surgical outcome. Out of 12 patients of exotropia, 3 were with residual deviation and 9(75%) had orthophoria. There was significant effect on patient’s self-awareness, emotional functions and five-point scale score was 98. Recess-resect procedures had better outcome than bilateral recession/resection.
