Abstract
Intra orbital wooden foreign body (IOWFB) constitute a relatively rare ocular trauma. Diagnosis and management of IOWFB is sometimes difficult as there may be long delay between injury and presentation & non specific clinical manifestation. The history and external signs of injury are often scant or absent and the foreign body may be missed by imaging modalities.
A 45 year old female presented with a left lower lid mass for 6 months gradually increasing in size associated with pain, watering and discharge. Gave history of trauma to Left eye 1 year back by wooden broom, no treatment was taken then. Ophthalmic examination of left eye revealed conjunctival congestion, chemosis and restricted EOM in lateral gaze. CECT orbit showed linear hyperdense structure in left lateral rectus. Patient recovered well after removal of IOFB and a course of antibiotics
Conclusion-High index of suspicion, good quality CT & early management of IOWFB is essential to reduce ocular and adnexal morbidity
