Abstract
Ocular effects of Refractive error on in Paediatric population.
Purpose : To study the effect of refractive error on asthenopia, accommodation and convergence.
Methods : A Hospital based cross-sectional study of 270 patients of 5-18 year age group with or without refractive error was done.
Results : Asthenopia was found in 97.78% subjects and major presenting symptom in emmetropic patients. Asthenopia was present in 65.56% and 60% population of myopic and hyperopic subjects respectively. Near point of Accommodation ( N.P.A. ) was found to be around 17.11 cm in hyperopic patients as compared to mean of 10.59 cm and 9.72 cm in emmetropes and myopes respectively. Near point of Convergence (N.P.C) was slightly higher in hyperopes 12.02 cm as compared to 10.60 cm and 10.36 in emmetropes and myopes resepectively.
Conclusion : Athenopia is the major presenting complaint in emmteropic patients. Accommodation and convergence are affected in Hyperopia more as compared to myopia.
