Abstract
This retrospective study included patients = 18 years of age who underwent chandelier assisted scleral buckling (CASB) for primary RD and completed at least three months follow-up. Patients with penetrating ocular trauma, single eyed patients and previous ocular surgery were excluded. 37 eyes of 36 patients were included with mean age of of 12 years (range 5-18 years). 13 eyes (34.21%) had total RD and macula was detached in 35 eyes (94.6%). 20 eyes (52%) had history of trauma, 8 eyes (21.05%) had high myopia while 9 eyes (24.32%) had spontaneous RD. PVR was observed in 15 eyes (39.47%)- 13.16% had PVR B,18.42% had PVR C1/2 and 7.89% had PVR C3. All patients received an encircling band with a circumferential tyre and subretinal fluid drainage was done in 29 eyes (78.3%). Primary success was observed in 31 eyes (83.7%) while final success in 34 eyes (91.89%). CASB ensures enhanced visualization thereby minimising chances of missed breaks and improving outcomes in paediatric RDs.
