Abstract

Purpose:To study epidemiology pattern of trauma&outcome in patients of ocular injuries post RTA Setting:Hospital based observational study conducted for a period of4years

Methods:210cases of ocular injuries post RTA studied prospectively.History and evaluation regarding cause,vehicle,type&severity of injury&visual acuity at presentation&final outcome done

Results:Most cases were seen b/w20-40years,more in males;52% 2wheelers;41% without helmet34%at night29%under the influence of alcohol80%extraocular37%severe in nature.Many had left sided injury&5.7%had bilateral involvement.Most injured was eyelid>orbit>globe injury.Open globe injury was seen in23%cases55%had good visual outcome23%had blinding outcome which was due to rupture globe,retinal detachment&traumatic optic neuropathyConclusion:Bike riders without helmets are more prone for RTA related ocular injuries.Proper road safety measures like wearing helmets,prohibiting mobile use&alcohol consumption during driving should be must
