Abstract
Background-Ophthalmological manifestations of PIH are sudden onset dimness of vision, headache,diplopia,scotoma. Fundoscopic findings include hypertensive retinal changes of various stages.
Aims and objectives- To study association of hypertensive retinopathy 1)with severity of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy2) with gravida and age.
Study design-This is a cross-sectional observational study of 6 months duration done in a tertiary care hospital of Kolkata.
Methods-160 PIH patients had undergone dilated fundoscopy examination after taking thorough obstetric and ocular history.
Results-160 patients of PIH with mean age of 24 years, gestation period of 28 weeks to 41 weeks were examined. 96 patients (60%) had developed hypertensive retinopathy changes. According to Keith-Wagner-Barker classification 68 patients (42.5%) had Grade-I, 20 patients (12.5%) developed Grade -ll ,6 patients (3.8%) had Grade III hypertensive changes and 2 patients (1.3%) developed Grade IV changes.
