Abstract

AIM: Evaluation of incidence and causes of spectacle change within 30 days of refraction.

METHODS: Prospective study over 1 year. Sample taken from Hospital Management System and Optical shop.

Patients unsatisfied with glasses after 1 week of adjustment period underwent checking for manufacturing defects first, followed by repeat refraction and new spectacles prescribed if required.

RESULTS:0.35%(n=29) of 8200 patients required change of glasses. 17 % required increase in power. 14 % required reduction in power.7 % could not adjust to progressive glasses. 24 % required change in near correction.

CONCLUSION: Since a revision of spectacles is a monetary burden, it can be reduced by a meticulous refraction, taking in to account the subjective acceptance variability according to patient needs and maintaining accurately measured test distances.
