Abstract
ABSTRACT
Purpose: To report 2 cases of CHED who reported to our centre & managed with nDSEK with a successful visual outcome.
Methods: A case report of 2 male siblings aged 14 & 9 yrs, product of consanguineous marriage who presented with h/o whitish discoloration of cornea & blurred vision both eyes since birth. On evaluation patients had DVA-3/60. Slit lamp evaluation showed thick cornea with uneven surface, diffuse epithelial & stromal edema in both eyes. ASOCT revealed corneal thickness >1000um. Both underwent nDSEK & followed 12months postoperatively.
Results: Preop vision was 3/60 which improved to 6/18 postop. ASOCT done postop showed reduction in corneal thickness in both cases.
Conclusion: CHED is a primary disease of the corneal endothelium & Descemets membrane, causing bilateral diffuse corneal clouding since infancy. Treatment decisions depend on severity & driven by careful clinical examination. nDSEK offers much less invasive alternative to PK surgery in these cases.
