Abstract
Background: Toxic epidermal necrolysis is an acute life-threatening adverse drug reaction associated with ocular complications in majority of cases.
Methods: A 18year old female presented in casualty with generalized erythematous vesiculobullous rash and sloughing of skin.She developed diminution of vison along with severe discomfort and grittiness in both eyes.Her visual acuity was hand movement in right eye while bedside normal in left eye.Bilateral corneal epithelial defect was noted. Schirmer test showed no wetting at the end of 5minutes in both side.Care was taken to prevent further ocular sequelae by daily monitoring of the patient.
Treatment: Patient was treated conservatively with artificial tear substitute,topical antibiotic steroids and showed marked improvement. Patient is in follow up.
Conclusion:Early diagnosis of the ocular sequelae provides wide range of opportunity to prevent further chronic complications.
